Mike Schæfer Olsen is a Danish ambient and Nordic folk musician that goes by the artistic name Danheim. The name means Danish home and is taken from the Old Norse language.
Olsen had been producing electronic music for a while when he developed a strong connection to his Scandinavian roots, which led him to mix Viking style music into his creations. His inspirations come from Nordic Mythology, Danish folklore and the darker side of the Viking age.
Danheim’s music is very rhythmic, almost shamanic, and his style has been compared to if Brian Eno would do a soundtrack for Game of Thrones. Like Eno, Olsen is very experimental and uses sometimes unorthodox ways to record sounds. For example, he has used parts of dead plants and animals, as well as some real human bones as instruments.
Danheim has released eight studio albums on his own independent label and numerous singles.
Danheim has also contributed music to the popular tv series Vikings as well as the series Vikings: Valhalla and some video games. His YouTube channel has 520k subscribers and he has almost 500k monthly listeners on Spotify.
